Banyana Banyana goalkeeper Kaylin Swart has vowed to help South Africa retain the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title and rewrite history in Morocco.

South Africa claimed the title in 2022, and this is the first time they have returned to Morocco since lifting the trophy. They have been drawn in Group B alongside Ghana, Tanzania, and Mali in the tournament from 5-26 July 2025.

“It’s such great memories in Morocco, we were in Rabat in 2022 and now we’re in Casablanca. The feeling is the same; we’re very excited to be here because it’s familiar territory for us and hopefully all that excitement can come back from 2022. Hopefully, we can do it again,” said Swart, as quoted by SAFA website.

“Now we have got to write a new book. There’s a lot more to be done, but if we can repeat history that would be great. It’s not going to be easy, but, yes (this year) might just be a really good chapter for us.”

She added: “It’s so crazy to think that we are just a couple of days away from kick-off, but we are excited. We just need to dot the I’s so that when we play our first match. We know exactly what we need to do, and obviously we want the positive result, which is a win. So yes, that’s what we’re looking forward to now, and that’s what we’re working towards.”

Banyana are currently in Casablanca for their final preparations and will move to their base camp in Oujda on Thursday, 3 July. They will begin their title defence against Ghana on Monday, 7 July. This will be followed by the clash against Tanzania on Friday, 11 July, with Mali last on the list in the group stage on Monday, 14 July.
