With a crucial Three Nations Series clash against Zambia looming, Banyana Banyana coach Desiree Ellis has detailed her tactical approach.

Banyana are intensifying their preparations for their next match against Zambia, with coach Ellis prioritising defensive organisation and impactful transitional play. Ellis' troops will take on the Copper Queens at Lucas Moripe Stadium on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, following their thrilling 3-2 victory over Botswana on Wednesday afternoon.

The South African Senior Women’s National Team appeared focused and sharp during their Friday morning session under Ellis's close guidance. With Zambia next on the Three Nations fixture list, the technical team has placed particular emphasis on these tactical areas.

"The Zambian team brings something different (compared to Botswana), their front three are really quick,” said Ellis. “Our defensive organisation has to be really good, and when we win the ball, we have to make sure that we hurt them. That’s going to be really important.”

Meanwhile, Ellis also addressed the reintegration of key players returning from lengthy injury spells, including midfield stalwart Refiloe Jane, defender Bambanani Mbane, and forward Karabo Dhlamini.

"They’ve been in camp for more than a week, same as Botswana, so they have that synergy and playing together," she added.

"We’ve brought in some players back from injury. I’m very pleased with what they brought, but it’s going to take some time because Refiloe was out for more than a year from international football and international football is different from league football. Same with Bambanani and Karabo. It takes time to gel.”

The Three Nations Series continues with Botswana facing Zambia today, Saturday, May 31, 2025.
