Head coach of Heart of Lions Bashir Hayford has remained modest about their title aspirations in the Ghana Premier League.

The club, which is described as “Giant Slayers” due to their previous glories over top clubs in the domestic top flight, currently sit top of the league after 13 games played. Their impressive outing sees them share 24 points alongside Gold Stars after they defeated Samartex last Saturday.

Notwithstanding the stellar performance, the club’s veteran trainer, Bashir Hayford has downplayed the immediate idea of winning the Ghana Premier League.

According to Hayford, the main target for the club this season is to improve on last year's struggles and remain competitive. "I'm not saying I will win the title with Heart of Lions. Last season, we struggled, and this season we don't want to struggle like last season. That is my target.

"As a coach, it is my job to be winning and doing well. So I don't know why it is surprising for people that my team is on top of the league. That is my job." he said on Asempa FM.

The Kpando-based side will play their next game against Basake Holy Stars, hoping to maintain their lead. Hayford's comments suggest that the team's focus is on steady progress and improvement, rather than chasing the league title.
