Bassey says Fulham on course to achieve season target

Nigeria defender Calvin Bassey has remained optimistic of helping Premier League outfit Fulham secure their place in their Europa League for next season.

The Cottagers are currently sitting in 11th position with 41 points from 30 matches. Newcastle United and Bournemouth, who are ahead of them have 42.

Discussing Fulham’s chances to reach the Europ League, Bassey told the club’s official website: “I don’t think it’s ruled out.

‘We take each game as it comes’

“We take each game as it comes, anything can happen. I haven’t had a chance to look at the table and see where the other teams are at. The most important thing was that we didn’t lose this game, and we didn’t lose the game. We just take each game as it comes, and hopefully things will work in our favour as well.”

On his best chance against Nottingham Forest during their last Premier League fixture on Sunday, he said: “It was a big chance. I wasn’t sure if I was on or off. I timed it well, but just hit it straight at the ‘keeper.

“I think I’ve got to pick a side; I’ve got to do a lot better. I think it’s got to be a goal, in my opinion.

“Both teams had to deal with the conditions – the pitch, the wind. It was a difficult game, I feel like we grew into it, we tried to manage the situations as best we could, we knew that we had to cover each other, because anything could happen.”

Fulham will next take on Burnley

Bassey concluded: “Great line! Of course, we always try to keep a good line and we managed to do that. Obviously, there’s a bit of luck as well, it was marginal, by a boot or something, but that’s what VAR’s for.”

Bassey and Fulham will return to league action on Saturday against Burnley at Craven Cottage. After Saturday’s meeting with Burnley, it will be three weeks until the next Fulham fixture.
