Bayer Leverkusen have completed the signing of Algerian rising star Ibrahim Maza from Hertha Berlin. The 19-year-old attacking midfielder is the first summer signing for Werkself, as he signed a contract that runs up until 2030.
Capped by Les Fennecs, Maza came through the Hertha Berlin youth setup. According to kicker, Leverkusen paid €12 million euros for the services of the young star. Maza will be joining his new team after the completion of the current season.
Speaking to the club’s media, Leverkusen sporting director Simon Rolfes was full of praise for their new player. “Ibrahim Maza is currently one of the most interesting young attacking players. Ibrahim suits us and our style of football. He has outstanding technical ability, is good at dribbling and assertive, and he also has vision for his teammates, whom he can brilliantly bring into play," said the former Leverkusen captain.
Maza, for his part, stated he is delighted with the move. “It is a great chance – a dream! I had the best opportunities to develop and improve with Hertha in the second division. Now I want to prove myself on the big stage with a top European club. I'm very much looking forward to Bayer 04, to the special, tight stadium with its great atmosphere, and to a team that has really impressed me in recent years. Here in Leverkusen, I can develop even more and win titles – that's what motivates me."
Born to Algerian and Vietnamese parents in Berlin, Maza is expected to be a potential replacement for German star Florian Wirtz.
