Tunisian outfit Espérance officially stated that they are ceasing any cooperation with the National Professional Football League (NPFL) following the suspension of their striker Youcef Belaïli.

The Algerian striker was suspended by the NPFL disciplinary committee for a provocative goal celebration and is set to miss the Tunis derby game against arch-rivals and fellow title contenders Club Africain on April 20.

Tension is rising between the Tunisian giants and the NPFL over Belaïli’s suspension. Espérance claimed that the league failed to review all legal requests submitted by the player. They further noted that the league reviewed the case with an incompetent body.

Espérance said they are suspending any form of cooperation with the league until a legitimate leadership is elected. According to the Tunis club, the league lacks the principles of transparency, independence, and neutrality.

As things stand, the 33-year-old striker will miss the crucial Tunis derby. Espérance and Club Africain are vying for the league crown this season. US Monastir is also in the mix to become champions of Tunisia with all three teams within reach of each other on the table.
