Belarus: Nalugya shines on debut as FC Minsk squeeze past Dinamo Brest

Belarusian football, turning heads with an impressive debut for FC Minsk Women in the Belarusian Women’s Cup semifinal.

Just days after finalizing her move from Kampala Queens, the Uganda international was thrown straight into action on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, as Minsk locked horns with rivals Dinamo Brest in a high-stakes encounter. The match ended 1-1 after regular time, before Minsk triumphed 5-4 in a dramatic penalty shootout to seal a spot in the final.

Nalugya featured throughout the match, including extra time and penalties, showcasing her trademark composure and sharp footballing IQ. She dictated the tempo from midfield, executed incisive forward passes, and came close to scoring during open play with a couple of attempts on target.

In the shootout, it was Nalugya who coolly converted the decisive penalty, sending the goalkeeper the wrong way before Dinamo missed their final effort — sparking celebrations in the Minsk camp.

This semifinal clash marked a rare moment for Dinamo Brest, who found the net against FC Minsk for the first time in six head-to-head meetings. However, Minsk maintained their unbeaten streak over Brest with five wins and a draw in those encounters.

FC Minsk, the reigning cup holders, will now look to defend their crown in the final, where they’ll meet the winner between Dinamo BGU and Zorka BDU.

Nalugya’s outstanding debut will no doubt boost her confidence and deepen her integration into the team as the Belarusian giants chase more silverware this season.
