Spanish club Celta Vigo have exercised the option to acquire Asante Kotoko forward Bernard Somuah Sarpong on a permanent deal.
Somuah, 20, who joined Celta Vigo on a long-term loan deal last year, impressed the technical team, prompting the Sky Blues to regularize his stay until 2030.
Asante Kotoko acquired the services of Somuah from Afigya Liberty on a three-year deal but his prowess was quickly noticed by the La Liga side who roped him into their Celta Juvenil A [U19]. He graduated to the club’s “B” team, Celta Fortuna, for an initial loan deal with an option to buy.

He made his debut in the Primera Federación (Spanish third tier), coming on in the opening day against Zamora CF. Since then, he has established himself as a regular starter in Fredi Álvarez’s lineup with Celta Fortuna.
Somuah scored 5 goals, contributing speed, dribbling skills, and decisiveness in one-on-one situations. His performances have been crucial in key moments of the season, such as in the historic comeback against Talavera at Barreiro, where he scored the winning goal in stoppage time.
He contributed to a high level performance this season as the club’s reserve team currently sit second in the standings with 48 points.
Spanish side RC Celta de Vigo have officially exercised their option to sign Ghanaian forward Bernard Somuah Sarpong on a permanent deal, rewarding the young attacker for his impressive development since arriving in Spain.
The 20-year-old initially joined the La Liga club on a long-term loan from Asante Kotoko SC last year. After consistent performances and rapid progression through the club’s youth and reserve ranks, Celta moved swiftly to secure his services until 2030.
The announcement was confirmed via Celta’s official social media channels, signaling the club’s confidence in Somuah’s long-term potential.
Bernard Somuah’s rise has been nothing short of remarkable. Before his move to Spain, Kotoko had signed him from Afigya Liberty FC on a three-year deal. His talent quickly attracted attention beyond Ghana, particularly from Celta Vigo’s scouting department.
Upon arrival in Spain, Somuah was integrated into Celta Juvenil A (U19), where he showcased his technical quality, speed, and direct attacking style. His ability to beat defenders in one-on-one situations and make intelligent runs behind defensive lines stood out immediately.
His steady performances earned him a promotion to the club’s reserve team, Celta Fortuna, competing in the Primera Federación — Spain’s third tier.
Bernard Somuah wasted little time adapting to senior football in Spain. He made his debut in the Primera Federación on opening day against Zamora CF and gradually cemented his place in Fredi Álvarez’s starting lineup.
Over the course of the season, the Ghanaian forward has scored five goals while consistently contributing to the team’s attacking threat. Beyond the numbers, his pace and dribbling have provided Celta Fortuna with dynamism on the flanks.
One of his standout moments came during a dramatic comeback against CF Talavera de la Reina at Barreiro Stadium. In stoppage time, Somuah netted the winning goal to complete a historic turnaround — a moment that underlined both his composure and clutch mentality.
Currently sitting second in the league standings with 48 points, Celta Fortuna are enjoying an excellent campaign, and Somuah’s contributions have played a key role in their push near the summit.
Celta Vigo’s decision to activate the buy clause reflects strategic planning and belief in youth development. The club has a strong tradition of nurturing young talent through its academy and reserve structure before integrating players into the senior squad.
Somuah fits perfectly into that model. At just 20 years old, he offers long-term potential with room for physical and tactical growth. His work rate, pressing ability, and adaptability make him an asset not only as a winger but also as a forward capable of operating across the front line.
