Bernard Tekpetey’s match winner hands Ludogorets 5th consecutive Bulgarian Supercup

Bernard Tekpetey played the role of super-sub on Tuesday, scoring the lone goal less than a minute after coming off the bench as Ludogorets Razgrad claimed their ninth Bulgarian Supercup with a 1-0 victory over Levski Sofia.

The Ghanaian was ready for instant action upon entering the pitch. After the Bulgarian club champions made progress down the right flank, the Levski defense failed to adequately clear a cross. Spanish flank player Son then lofted a cross to the far post where Tekpetey bravely crashed in for a crucial header.

After claiming both the Bulgarian top flight efbet League and the country’s cup competition last season, Ludogorets faced league runners-up Levski in this year’s edition of the match typically reserved for a clash between the league and cup champions. Despite the match being in Levski’s home city at the Vasil Levski National Stadium, Ludogorets came out on top.

The club continues to dominate Bulgarian football, winning the last five Supercups but even more impressively, winning the last FOURTEEN editions of the top flight league. They are facing quite a firm challenge from Levski this season, however, with the capital side holding a seven-point lead through nineteen rounds.

Tekpetey, who has been at the club since joining ahead of the 2020-21 season, is enjoying his current campaign which has seen him alternate between being a useful substitute as well as starting his fair share of matches. He has 5 goals in 3 assists in 30 matches across all competitions after missing almost all of last season due to a broken leg suffered early in the campaign.

The two-time Ghana international also played a significant role in his club’s continental efforts as they qualified for the UEFA Europa League knockout stages. They will face Hungarian giants Ferencváros in the first leg of their Round of 32 clash on February 19 at home.
