Turkish Süper Lig club Beşiktaş have confirmed that Nigerian captain Wilfred Ndidi sustained a hamstring injury during the Super Eagles’ 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) quarter-final encounter against Algeria.
Ndidi was replaced in the 70th minute of that match and was unavailable to feature in Nigeria’s semi-final clash due to both suspension and injury. Furthermore, he was unable to feature in the third-place play-off against Egypt.
The 29-year-old returned to Turkey on Sunday following the Super Eagles’ bronze-medal victory over the Pharaohs of Egypt on Saturday.
Upon his return, Beşiktaş announced via their website that an MRI performed by the Nigerian medical staff diagnosed him with a strain and bleeding in the biceps femoris muscle. He has already begun treatment at the club.
“Our player Wilfred Ndidi, who was unable to continue playing in the 70th minute of Nigeria’s Africa Cup of Nations match against Algeria due to pain in his left hamstring, has been diagnosed with a strain and bleeding in his biceps femoris muscle following an MRI performed by the Nigerian national team’s medical staff.
Wilfred Ndidi’s treatment process has begun.”
The Beşiktaş medical team, however, did not provide a specific timeline for how long the midfielder is expected to be sidelined.
