Marumo Gallants FC coach Lafitte Alexandre has given a candid assessment of what is going wrong with his team in the Betway Premiership.
The Frenchman had a flying start to life with the Bloemfontein-based team. He won two opening Betway Premiership games on the bounce. They beat Richards Bay 2-1 then stunned Orlando Pirates by a similar margin.
However, Gallants’ wheels seem to be coming off. They suffered a 1-0 loss to AmaZulu FC followed by Tuesday’s 1-0 loss to Stellenbosch.
In a post-match interview with SuperSport Television, Alexandre, cited inability to convert scoring chances and a usual bad patch as the reasons for the decline in form.
“It is bad result for us,” the coach said. “I think we played a correct game but the problem is when you concede, it is difficult to win a game. We had an opportunity to score but we didn’t.”
The Frenchman added: “We played good football. We were recovering the ball. We improved how we play. It is important to keep focused and to win on Sunday. Sometimes, you have the time which is not good for you.”
Gallants have a chance to bounce back to winning ways when they play against Polokwane City on Sunday. The Rise and Shine shared the spoils at 0-0 with Durban City on Tuesday.
