With little to play for in their final league match of the 2024-25 Betway Premiership season, Orlando Pirates and Magesi FC played to an uninspired 1-1 draw on Wednesday at Orlando Stadium.

The two teams exchanged first half goals. Patrick Maswanganyi put hosts Pirates ahead inside ten minutes after a set piece training ground routine, which saw Relebohile Mofokeng's free kick set up Maswanganyi for a curled finish just outside the penalty area.

However, Magesi displayed fight and spirit to equalize even if they hardly created any chances in the match. A long ball found target man Thabang Sibanyoni, who had too much time to turn and set up Edmore Chirambadare for a low finish from the left wing that snuck under Pirates keeper Sipho Chaine.

Pirates end the season twelve points back of league champions Mamelodi Sundowns, who secured their eighth consecutive league crown in South Africa's top flight. Magesi, who fought off relegation courtesy of a strong performance in the second half of the season, are in 12th position.

One more match has to be resolved before the season concludes. SuperSport United, currently sitting in the relegation playoff spot, will finish up a game against Golden Arrows on Thursday that was postponed with the game tied 1-1 at halftime. If SuperSport get a draw or victory then it will be Cape Town City who will take part in the promotion/relegation playoff.
