Neither AmaZulu nor Polokwane City made progress up the Betway Premiership after playing to a 1-1 draw Friday at the King Zwelithini Stadium in Durban.
AmaZulu forward Tebogo Mashigo scored his first professional goal in sensational fashion, rocketing in a finish to give Arthur Zwane's side the lead in the 7th minute. However, the hosts could not hold on for the three points.
Despite the absence of star playmaker Oswin Appollis, visitors Polokwane rallied with a better effort in the second half. Close to the hour mark, center back Lebohang Mkaki leveled the match from the penalty spot with a powerful effort that went out of reach for Usuthu goalkeeper Richard Ofori.
AmaZulu remain in 6th position on 34 points, one ahead of Polokwane following Friday's result. Both teams are well out of the race for CAF club competition next season and are vulnerable to being caught by Chippa United and Kaizer Chiefs.
The match served as an appetizer for Saturday's big Soweto Derby between Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs (14:00 GMT). Four more matches will also take place on Saturday with leaders Mamelodi Sundowns traveling to face Cape Town City.
