Kaizer Chiefs defender Inacio Miguel has once again leapt to the defence of under-fire coach Nasreddine Nabi. The defender told South African media that the Tunisian does not play, hence the blame must be spread to the players for them to take responsibility for the unfavourable results.
The Angolan said this in an interview with the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) on Monday as Kaizer Chiefs returned to Naturena Village for training after being bruised again in a Soweto Derby defeat to rivals Orlando Pirates over the weekend.
The former Petro de Luanda player insisted it was unfair to single out the ex-Yanga SC mentor for Kaizer Chiefs' lukewarm performances:
“It is not only the coach who is under pressure; it is also the players. People have to understand that the coach doesn’t play; we play. We are the ones who make mistakes. We are the ones who give you victory, so the pressure should be spread among the coach and the players,” the defender said.
“It should not be because the coach makes bad decisions. We, the players, including me, and the senior players. There is me, Gastin Sirino, and others. I take responsibility for the bad season.”
He attributed Kaizer Chiefs' unconvincing season to the process of adapting to the Tunisian coach’s playing style.
“It is a new season for the coach, a new process and new things to teach the players; trying to make us understand what is the ideal way to play. It is a process; we have to be patient and understand that we can make something different. The most important thing is to believe in the process,” he said.
Chiefs are smarting from a 2-1 loss to Orlando Pirates in a Betway Premiership match over the weekend and meet the Soweto rivals again in the Nedbank Cup final on Saturday—the only opportunity to salvage something from the season.
