Betway Premiership: Gallants pushed Mamelodi Sundowns to edge – Ndlondlo

Marumo Gallants FC’s midfielder Ndabayithethwa Ndlondlo says they pushed Betway Premiership counterparts Mamelodi Sundowns to the edge on Wednesday.

The two teams clashed at Dr Molemela Stadium where the visitors showed their intent to score through Iqraam Rayners in the 28th minute. Some seven minutes later, the hosts responded to level matters.

The 30-year-old playmaker had a splendid performance with his shot resulting in Sundowns’ own goal. The goal helped the hosts to come from behind and force a one-all draw.

Apart from his goal contribution, Ndlondlo proved too hot to handle for the Betway Premiership defending champions with his penetrative runs going forward and the ability to make team-mates play in tight spaces.

Orlando Pirates man watch man of the match

Little wonder, the former Orlando Pirates’ man walked off the pitch with a man-of-the award accolade, a feat the pint-sized midfielder attributed to team work.

“We really pushed. We really wanted to redeem ourselves because we didn’t have good results in the last games that we played and the [FIFA international] break helped us so that we can get back into the rhythm we had,” he said.

“We showed that we are capable and that we can win games. We played against a good team. We also showed that we are also a good team. We pushed them to the edge and it was a fair game in the end.

“From this game, we will only take the positives, but we know that there is still room for improvement with the good players we have.”

Gallants return to the battlefield on Saturday as they travel to the North West province to face struggling rookies Orbit College FC.
