Durban City FC coach Gavin Hunt has opened up on the pleasant surprise he has experienced coaching the Betway Premiership rookies.
The former SuperSport United mentor said he was encouraged by City’s impressive start to life in the top-flight league as they remain unbeaten.
“Seven points from three games, if you said that at the start, you’ll take it. We will get better as well, there’s no doubt. Obviously, a lot of new players have come in, so we have got to try and find a way to settle quickly,” Hunt told the club’s website.
The PSL title-winning tactician further gave insights into the type of players he has at his disposal and their work ethic.
“I was pleasantly surprised at what I got when I arrived. It’s refreshing for me to see people that want to work and want to improve and want to do well,” Hunt explained.
“There’s a good mentality among the players. There’s a good group of people. Good humans in the game and that’s the most important thing for me.”
Meanwhile, Hunt hopes his players would take that positive mentality into two different challenges assignments starting off with Tuesday’s meeting against Polokwane City.
The Betway Premiership rookies face Polokwane at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium (7:30pm kick-off), followed by a meeting with Sekhukhune United on Saturday.
Reflecting on the games, the coach said he was expecting tough and challenging opponents with contrasting styles of play. “We have two tough away games now, so yeah, we move forward. They’re totally different games, but we have shown already that we have the desire and the will,” Hunt told his club’s website.
City have a spring in their step going into the two matches after collecting seven points from their opening three Premiership fixtures.
