Kaizer Chiefs did just enough to remain perfect through two games in the nascent 2025-26 Betway Premiership season with Wednesday’s 1-0 home victory over Polokwane City.
Reeve Frosler got on the end of a 79th minute cross and after his initial cross attempt came back to him, the right back calmly laid back for Siphesihle Ndlovu to fire into the goal past a scrambling Polokwane defense.
Both teams were reduced to long range attempts in the first half with Chiefs goalkeeper Brandon Petersen fending off former Amakhosi midfielder Manuel Kambala’s powerful effort from 35 yards. Polokwane keeper Brian Bwire also did well to deal with Makabi Lilepo’s venomous strike soon after.
But while the trend of few opportunities continued in the second half, it was Frosler’s composed assist that allowed Ndlovu to make the difference in a tight match.
Four other games were played simultaneously on Wednesday. Sekhukhune United earned a second consecutive 1-0 victory as well over TS Galaxy after previously surprising Orlando Pirates by the same result over the weekend. They and Chiefs are tied atop the early table with Durban City, also winners on Wednesday with a 1-0 result over Chippa United, and Marumo Gallants.
Stellenbosch FC, victims of Chiefs over the weekend, played hosts Magesi FC to a 1-1 draw while Golden Arrows shut out Richards Bay in a 1-0 result. The league resumes next Tuesday with Chiefs among the teams in action from five games with a fixture at home against Richards Bay.
