Despite having less to play for than Tuesday's opponents, Orlando Pirates overcame relegation-fighting SuperSport United in a 1-0 victory courtesy of a Mohau Nkota second half strike.

The 20-year-old Pirates starlet collected a pass from the Karim Kimvuidi on the right wing and cut inside to fire a low left-footed shot past SuperSport goalkeeper Thakasani Mbanjwa in the 71st minute. Nkota's goal was the difference in an even and rather uneventful match.

While Pirates are secured a second place finish, the result adds to SuperSport's woes. The Pretoria club remain level on 26 points with Cape Town City with both teams trying to avoid finishing in 15th place, currently held by Cape Town City due to an inferior goal difference.

Whoever finishes in 15th position will take part in a promotion/relegation playoff with the runner-up and third place teams from the second tier Motsepe Foundation Championship.

Both SuperSport and Cape Town City are in action on Saturday with Cape Town hosting Stellenbosch while SuperSport host Richards Bay. Pirates have two more matches remaining, at AmaZulu on Saturday before finishing up next Thursday at home against Magesi FC.
