Orlando Pirates failed to find a breakthrough as they were held to a 0-0 draw by hosts Sekhukhune United in Saturday action from South Africa’s Betway Premiership.
Bucs supporters were left frustrated as their team put in a decent performance away from home at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane but failed to earn maximum points. A strong performance from the midfield led by ball-winning midfielder Makhehlene Makhaula kept the visitors in control and Sekhukhune keeper Renaldo Leaner under consistent pressure.
However, the final third was where the Sea Robbers struggled. Striker Evidence Makgopa was particularly ineffective and the finishing issues were not remedied by the second half introduction of star playmakers Relebohile Mofokeng and Oswin Appollis in their first action since returning from AFCON duty with the South Africa national team.
Last season’s runners-up move level on points with leaders and reigning champions Mamelodi Sundowns at the top of the table. The Bucs do have a match in hand and hopes that they will soon establish themselves as the leaders. The hosts, who have only won one of their last seven league matches, are in fourth place three points back of the top.

In the other match from Saturday, halftime substitute Justice Figuareido scored the only goal as Chippa United edged hosts Orbit College 1-0 in a bottom of the table clash. The result moves Chippa off the bottom to within a point of Saturday’s opponents.
Action will continue on Sunday with AmaZulu hosting TS Galaxy before weekend action concludes with Durban City facing off against Polokwane City.
