Betway Premiership: Polokwane City add to TS Galaxy’s miserable league form

TS Galaxy have now failed to win in their last eight Betway Premiership matches after visitors Polokwane City dealt the Rockets a 1-2 home defeat on Wednesday at Solomon Mahlangu Stadium in KwaMhlanga.

The visitors from Limpopo Province showed no mercy to their hosts by jumping out to an early lead. In the 17th minute, Bonginkosi Dlamini collected an overhit cross and laid off a pass to Juan Mutudza who produced a beautiful curling effort far beyond the reach of Rockets goalkeeper Ira Tapé.

It was another sluggish performance from the hosts, who failed to put a single effort on target in the opening 45 minutes. It did not get any better when the deficit was stretched to two goals inside three minutes in the second half. Mutudza’s surging run saw the ball go into the path of Mokibelo Ramabu who powered his finish for another blow to Galaxy’s hopes.

Adnan Beganovic’s side were finally roused from sleep after going down two goals but Polokwane keeper Lindokuhle Mathebula was up the task for most of the second half. The veteran shot stopper denied Victor Letsoalo’s early second half effort with a somewhat clumsy stop but looked much sharper when he dove to repel Sphesile Maduna’s long range blast.

Mathebula was powerless to stop Igor Salatiel smashing in from a rebound after the Brazilian defender’s initial header was spilled by the keeper. However, the goal proved to be a mere consolation for the hosts who have dropped all the way to 12th position.

Polokwane aim for top-5 position in Betway Premiership

Polokwane have a strong hold on 7th place with ambitions to move higher. They trail Sekhukhune United and Durban City by three points for a top-5 position.

Next up on the league schedule is the upcoming weekend action, which will commence with Friday’s sole match between hosts Richards Bay and title contenders Orlando Pirates.
