Polokwane City overcame fello Limpopo province club Magesi FC while Stellenbosch FC showed signs of continued improvement against AmaZulu on Friday in South Africa’s Betway Premiership.
The Seshego Stadium played host to Polokwane City’s victory as the home side continued their slide towards apparent relegation. Magesi, who have not won a match since mid-October, did little to ease the concerns of their supporters with few opportunities to speak of.
Polokwane City have not been in the most inspired form either but earned their first victory in 2026 with the result. Tholo Matuludi’s cannonball of a free kick in the 74th minute put the exclamation point on the win after Mokibelo Ramabu previously finished from close range in the first half. The result moves them up to 7th place.
Meanwhile, over in the Western Cape, Stellies earned back-to-back victories for the first time since late November with a 1-0 result against AmaZulu. Ibraheem Jabaar’s first half goal gave Gavin Hunt’s side a momentum-boosting victory that moves them farther away from the relegation zone into 9th position.

Jabaar failed to convert a penalty kick in the second half but his earlier goal was enough against Usuthu, whose anemic attack failed to trouble Stellies goalkeeper Sage Stephens.
Action continues on Saturday, of course headlined by the upcoming Soweto Derby between Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates in their first meeting of the 2025-26 season. Three more matches will take place later in the day.
