Royal AM owner Shawn Mkhize whose team is under curatorship in South Africa, has sparked speculation of her next football project after she attended a football match in neighbouring Eswatini over the weekend.

Mkhize donned the jersey of Moneni Pirates, who were playing Royal Leopards in the Ingwenyama Cup final at Somhlolo Stadium where the former won 1-0. The flamboyant businesswoman danced and waved at the fans alongside Royal AM officials.

Speaking to the media, Mkhize said she was in Eswatini for vacation while also exploring options, adding that Eswatini’s football standard had gone up.

“I wouldn’t have come here if I wasn’t looking for something, but if there is anything, I would let you know,” she said.

Royal AM are not fulfilling their Betway Premiership games due to financial problems, as Mkhize is accused of owing the South African Revenue Services (SARS); hence, the team is under curatorship following a preservation order the tax collector obtained.

Royal AM courted controversy after failing to pay its players and coaches outstanding salaries for December 2024. The Durban-based team eventually settled the dues while attributing the delays to legal issues with SARS.

The dictionary defines curatorship as when someone is appointed to oversee another person who cannot care for themselves. Royal AM anchor the PSL log table.
