Bradley Grobler’s stoppage time header helped Sekhukhune United maintain their status as Betway Premiership leaders on Saturday with a 1-0 victory over Golden Arrows.
The veteran striker leaped up to meet Shaune Mogaila’s cross in the third minute of second half stoppage time as hosts Sekhukhune edged a stubborn Arrows side to move four points clear of second placed side and reigning champions Mamelodi Sundowns.
Grobler had an excellent chance to give Babina Noko an early lead but failed to direct his first-time effort on target in the 8th minute. The hosts had to endure some decent opportunities for visitors Arrows for the remainder of the first half to keep the match scoreless at the break.
Sekhukhune proceeded to dominate the second half but remained goalless after a flurry of chances at the start of the second half. Just when it appeared that a draw was on the cards, Mogaila did well to create just enough space on the right wing to float a cross to the far post where Grobler arrived to nod in from close range.
The surprise leaders return to action on Wednesday with a home clash against Chippa United. In the other early league match from Saturday, Magesi FC earned their first victory of the season with a 2-0 result over Siwelele FC.
