Siwelele FC snapped a seven-match winless streak on Sunday in the Betway Premiership with a 1-0 result against local rivals Marumo Gallants in Bloemfontein.
It has been a controversial and turbulent debut campaign for the successors of SuperSport United in their first year of existence but Sunday’s result could mark a turning point. Tebogo Potsane’s finish into the roof of the net close to halftime was the difference against Gallants, who continue to be a difficult opponent for South Africa’s top sides but have failed to impose themselves against lesser clubs.
In the later match on Sunday, Stellenbosch FC have now failed to win their last six matches after a scoreless draw at Chippa United.
The Stellies attack looked a bit more dangerous but have now failed to score in their last three matches. With their attention on multiple competitions including the CAF Confederation Cup, there is plenty of work ahead for the Western Cape side who have only 6 points from 9 league matches.
The Betway Premiership resumes action on Tuesday when Orlando Pirates host TS Galaxy before Kaizer Chiefs close out midweek action on Wednesday at home against AmaZulu.
