Betway Premiership: Stellies steal maximum points in Soweto

We have co-leaders at the top of South Africa's Betway Premiership following the weekend's action. The notable news on Sunday was a home defeat for Orlando Pirates against visitors Stellenbosch FC, preventing Pirates from seizing sole ownership of the top spot and leaving them tied on 21 points with Saturday winners Mamelodi Sundowns.

The early stages looked promising for Bucs supporters who watched their side dominate the first half against Stellies. However the resilient visitors caught Pirates napping on defense in the 33rd minute when Stellies striker Ashley Cupido played an excellent ball over the top to find a wide open Devon Titus, who curled his finish past an onrushing Sipho Chaine into the Bucs' goal.

Stellenbosch took advantage of the momentum from Titus' strike to nullify the youthful Pirates attack which slowed down in the second half.

In another match played simultaneously on Sunday, Golden Arrows surrendered a two-goal lead to visitors Cape Town City but Nqobeko Dlamini provided a scrappy winning goal in the 74th minute to give the Durban club maximum points. In the final match of the weekend, hosts Polokwane City leveled late on to preserve a point in their 1-1 draw with TS Galaxy.
