AmaZulu FC coach Arthur Zwane has bemoaned his team’s defensive lapses in Tuesday’s 1-0 loss to Stellenbosch FC in the Betway Premiership at Danie Craven Stadium.
In a post-match interview with SuperSport Television, Zwane felt goalkeeper Richard Ofori and the defence should have done better with a corner kick from which the hosts scored through Zanele Barns’ 29th-minute finish.
“I don't know what to say anymore. To me, the cross was so low that we could have done better either the keeper or the defenders but we did not and ended up conceding,” he said.
“We have been working on it, trying not to concede early in the game and making sure we don’t concede at all and we end up conceding again in a dead-ball situation when we had the ball.”
Zwane’s Usuthu are stuck in seventh position, their top-four bid undermined. Stellenbosch FC’s coach Steve Barker saluted his team for keeping a clean sheet to keep the visitors at bay.
Barker’s men leapfrogged Sekhukhune United into third place, eight points behind second-placed Orlando Pirates who have three games in hand.
