Former South Africa’s Black Leopards goalkeeper Mwenya Chibwe has parted ways with Zambia’s ZESCO United.
The ex-Baroka and Platinum Stars custodian described his stint with the nine-time champions as challenging and disappointing.
“I wish to inform everyone that I have mutually separated from Zesco United. Since arriving in August, it has been a challenging period for me personally, and it’s an experience I would not want any player to go through,” he said via a statement.
Chibwe returned to ZESCO United in August to put pen a two-year deal from Black Leopards where he made just 16 appearances in the Motsepe Foundation Championship.
The 32-year-old then expressed his gratitude to his fans for standing behind him during the challenging time.
“I want to sincerely thank everyone who has checked on me, supported me, and stood by me during this time. To my loyal fans and supporters, your love keeps me going, and I am truly grateful,” the former Jomo Cosmos man added.
The former Polokwane City keeper hinted on his next project, saying he will focus on his career and charitable activities through his Chibwe Foundation.
“As I move forward, I am excited to focus on a new chapter in my career and continue the work of the Chibwe Foundation—‘Change for Youth.’ Empowering and uplifting young people remains at the heart of my journey,” he said.
The former Chipolopolo keeper found competition tough with the Kitwe-based side which also recruited Nigerian Sochima Victor Ndukauba from South Sudan outfit Jamus FC on a two-year contract.
Chibwe was born in South Africa to a South African mother and Zambian father.
He had options to represented either Bafana Bafana or Chipolopolo and he opted for the latter though he failed to cement his place.
