Malawi senior women’s national football team coach Lovemore Fazili has attributed Saturday’s 3-1 loss to Ghana’s Black Queens to inexperience.
The two teams met in Morocco to fine-tune for their respective fixtures related to Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
The Scorchers are gearing up for the 2026 WAFCON final qualifying round game against Angola in October 2025. On the other hand, the West Africans are doing final touches to their preparations for the WAFCON finals scheduled in Morocco next month.
In the end, Ghana’s quality prevailed over the Malawians, with Fazili admitting that his charges could not match the opposition’s performance.
“We played very well especially in the second half. We have lost because we were facing a team which is more experienced than us,” the coach said.
“All in all, I am happy with what we have learned from these two friendly matches. We will add from what we learned in Zambia and South Africa by playing with big teams which have been to the WAFCON and World Cup finals before.
“Losing is very painful but the most important thing for me is that we have tested how North and West African teams play. We are meeting Angola this October. Angola is similar to these teams.”
Malawi started their tour of Morocco with a 4-2 loss to the Atlas Lionesses last Thursday. The fifth defeat in six friendlies is food for thought for Fazili ahead of the tough Angola encounter.
