Ghana goalkeeper Benjamin Asare has said that, his debut call-up and eventual first senior appearance was the right moment to serve the nation.

The Hearts of Oak shot stopper made his Black Stars first appearance in two 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers – the 5-0 victory over Chad at the Accra Sports Stadium and the 3-0 thrashing of Madagascar in Morocco in March.

The 32-year-old kept clean sheets in those two games, cementing his position as the number one of the four time African champions.

Asare, who joined Hearts of Oak from the relegated Accra Great Olympics said: “I think there is time for everything. I had received a call up earlier during the 2025 AFCON qualifiers but I feel this is the right time,” Benjamin Asare said.

“There is a saying that, good things come to those who are patient and if one goes through hard times it makes you feel differently.

“However, when things change, it feels different as well and this has been my target and God willing I’ve been able to reach this level so I thank God. It’s our aim to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup because we missed out on the Africa Cup of Nations and I am confident that Ghana will qualify for the World Cup.”

Asare conceded his first goal at the 2025 Unity Cup where Ghana lost 2-1 to Nigeria in the first semifinals before being benched against Trinidad and Tobago in the third place where the Black Stars won by 4-0 at the GTech Community Stadium in London.
