Jwaneng Galaxy FC won the Orange FA Cup after beating Security Systems XI FC 2-0 in a final marred by a power cut and juju scuffles at the National Stadium in Botswana on Friday.
Midfielder Nqobizitha Masuku and Thabang Sesinyi's extra-time goals handed new Irish coach Sean Connor a memorable start to his job.
There was some drama during the final. At one moment, there was pushing and shoving on the pitch with players for both teams suspecting each other of using juju.
Botswana’s The Voice online publication captured the moment when a goalkeeper was standing across the goal line while trying to remove something from the ground. Other players came to push him out of the area before others joined the scuffles.
A power supply outage also saw the match being stopped briefly. The two teams were locked at 0-0 in 90 minutes, paving the way for the extra time that separated them.
Jwaneng have defended the cup they also won last season after defeating Orapa United 2-1. This time around it did not come on a silver platter.
For Security Systems, this is yet another heartbreak after they also lost 2-1 in the final of the same cup in 2022, their woes this season compounded by being relegated from the top-flight FNB Premier League in the just-ended season.
