Gor Mahia official Sally Bolo has urged the club’s faithful to continue their support for the team despite stumbling in their quest to win a third consecutive Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League title.
The record Kenyan champions saw their chances of retaining the crown go up in smoke following a 0-0 draw against Murang’a Seal at SportPesa Arena on Sunday. The outcome coupled with the shock 2-1 defeat against Nairobi City Stars in the previous fixture, forced the club to part ways with coach Sinisa Mihic with immediate effect.
The club has now been left in the hands of assistant coaches – Zedekiah ‘Zico’ Otieno and Michael Nam – as they plan for the remaining three league matches, including Mashemeji derby against rivals AFC Leopards, after the FIFA international break.
“I want to salute the Mighty Green Army for the overwhelming support especially last Sunday in Murang’a; the stadium turned into a sea of green,” Bolo told Pan-Africa Football.
“Your passion is unmatched, and though results haven’t gone our way lately, don’t lose hope. We will review, rebuild, and return to the Gor Mahia you know, with pride, power, and purpose.
“We are not done yet. This Sunday we have the FKF Cup semi-final, and three crucial league matches remaining. We need the 12th man louder than ever so that we can finish strongly.”
Gor Mahia are currently lying third in the 18-team league table with 54 points, seven fewer than leaders Kenya Police, while Tusker remain second with 55 points. Apart from the AFC Leopards derby, Gor Mahia will face Ulinzi Stars and Kenya Police to conclude the season.
