With RS Berkane long confirmed as champions of Morocco's top division Botola Pro, the battle continues on for second place and the nation's second CAF Champions League place. AS FAR maintained their pace as the leading candidates on Thursday with a 2-1 victory over Moghreb Tetouan.
A Youssef El Fahli first half penalty kick put hosts AS FAR ahead but doubt began to creep in after Mohamed Hrimat's expulsion due to two yellow cards in the 66th minute. However, Congolese striker Joël Beya produced a brilliant strike from distance that served as the match winner before a late MAT penalty kick.
AS FAR are three points clear with only one match to play. The Royal Army club also have a +5 goal difference on closest contenders Wydad AC that may come into play if they lose on the final day. Wydad also won on Thursday with a 2-0 result at Chabab Salmi (JSS).
Former Mamelodi Sundowns players provided both goals for Wydad. Cassius Mailula magical combination with Oussama Zemraoui led to his perfect curled finish before the half hour mark and Abdelmounaim Boutouil nodded in the second goal close to full time.
While Wydad still have their eyes on second place, a CAF Confederation Cup place is not guaranteed if they fail to win their final match. Rabat's other big club, Fath Union Sport, remains close behind after their 2-1 victory over Hassania Agadir. Hamza Hannoui's late header kept FUS's hopes of a top-3 finish alive and the club from the capital also have a superior goal difference to Wydad.
The final round of the Botola Pro will take place on Monday, May 12. AS FAR will travel to face Hassania Agadir and FUS are also away from home at COD Meknes. Wydad conclude their season at home against the surprise team of the campaign, 5th placed Renaissance Zemamra.
