A week after the Casablanca Derby took place in Morocco’s top flight Botola Pro, it was the capital’s turn for their rivalry match as AS FAR defeated FUS 1-0 in the Rabat Derby.
Youssef El Fahli’s strike early in the second half was all that the Royal Army club needed to move level with Wydad Casablanca at the top of the table on Thursday.
The goal was quite controversial. It appeared that the hosts would return possession after the ball was put out of play by their rivals so that a player could receive treatment. However, after the ball was played towards the corner of the opposition end, Reda Slim chased the ball down and the loanee from Al Ahly moved along the end line before laying a pass back for El Fahli to finish.

In a match that was an even clash, the moment of cleverness or immoral play depending on who you ask was the important moment that gave the CAF Champions League group stage participants three crucial points. The Army Men remain undefeated in all competitions this season and have won their last four league matches with eleven goals scored and zero goals conceded ahead of another challenging test against Maghreb Fez on Sunday.
FUS remain in ninth place with seven points from seven matches. They have now lost their last two league clashes.
