Wydad AC are the leaders of Morocco’s Botola Pro after the fourth round was completed on Sunday with AS FAR also emerging victorious while RS Berkane were held to a draw.
Reigning champions RS Berkane struggled against lesser opposition on Sunday due to a disastrous start in their 2-2 draw at Union Touarga. Zakaria Kassary opened the scoring for the hosts before RSB midfielder Mamadou Camara was issued a red card before thirty minutes had elapsed.
It appeared that RSB might get away unscathed. A brilliant conclusion to the first half ended with goals from Oussama Lamlioui and Mounir Chouaiar in stoppage time to put the visitors ahead. However, Younes Dahmani’s equalizer early in the second half restored parity to what ended up being the score when the full time whistle sounded.
In Safi, Coupe du Trône champions Olympique Safi suffered a similar fate to RSB but were punished after an early red card. African Nations Championship (CHAN) winner Mohamed Hrimat put AS FAR ahead against the 10-man hosts and the Royal Army club finshed the job in the second half through goals from Reda Slim and Khalid Ait Ouarkhane for a 3-0 result.
AS FAR’s local rivals, FUS, bounced back from a poor start to the season with a strong performance in a 3-0 victory at IR Tanger. After failing to win their opening three games, the result was needed for the club from the capital as they look to make up ground.
Hassania Agadir and newly promoted Olympique Dcheira were also among the winners as well as Wydad from Friday’s action. Four teams are tied in second place, two points behind leaders Wydad who are off to a strong start in their mission to return to the top of Morocco’s top flight after a couple of difficult seasons.
