Botola Pro: Raja and AS FAR play to draw

Two Moroccan giants played to a scoreless draw on Wednesday in the Botola Pro as Raja Casablanca and AS FAR Rabat shared the points.

Opportunities were limited for both sides but AS FAR looked more likely to score against an uninspired performance from hosts Raja at the Stade Mohammed V in Casablanca. The visitors from the capital created several chances but could not find a way past El Mehdi Al Harrar in the Raja goal, who did well to tip Ahmed Hammoudan’s 11th minute effort off the post.

VAR intervenes in Botola Pro clash

It appeared that the Royal Army club had opened the scoring early in the second half when Anas Bach took down a cross and fired past Al Harrar. However, a VAR review determined that Bach used his arm to control the ball before his shot.

Later on in the second half, the referee awarded a penalty kick in favor of AS FAR but VAR intervened once again and the spot kick was waved off. Raja had one more chance at the end of the match but Ahmed Reda Tagnouti did well to get down and save to preserve his clean sheet for AS FAR.

AS FAR to begin continental football

AS FAR next begin play in the CAF Champions League, where they will face Gambian champions Real de Banjul in the qualiying stages. The first leg takes place on Sunday. Raja did not qualify for continental competition and will continue to push for improvement in the Botola Pro.
