Wydad Casablanca took advantage of favorable results elsewhere to take sole possession of first place in Morocco’s Botola Pro with Sunday’s 2-1 victory at Olympique de Safi.
Thembinkosi Lorch has scored in four of his last six league matches for The Red Castle. The South African attacker opened the scoring with help from Nordin Amrabat before the former Morocco national team veteran converted from the penalty spot to leave WAC with a two-goal lead by halftime.
Soufian El Moudane’s late response from the spot for OCS was not enough, leaving the future CAF Confederation Cup group stage participants with five consecutive defeats in the league.
Other results on Sunday allowed WAC to claim top spot, the most important of which was a 0-0 draw between AS FAR Rabat and Maghreb Fez (MAS). The other two members of the top-3 cancelled each other out, leaving AS FAR two points back of Wydad and MAS four points behind.
In addition, reigning champions RS Berkane continue to look unconvincing and may have hit their lowest point on Sunday with a 0-1 defeat at IR Tanger. Despite a red card before the hour mark to IRT, Senegal U-20 forward Papa Gaye’s goal in the 74th minute stood as the winner against a flat RSB side.
In the other match on Sunday, Difaa El Jadida defeated FUS Rabat 1-0. On Saturday, COD Meknes joined Renaissance Zemamra and newly promoted Olympique Dcheira as the victors.
Hassania Agadir 0-3 Olympique Dcheira

COD Meknes 1-0 US Yacoub Mansour
Olympique de Safi 1-2 Wydad Casablanca
Difaa El Jadida 1-0 FUS Rabat
