Botola Pro: Wydad complete remarkable comeback; RS Berkane fight off DHJ

UTS (Union Touarga) appeared to have Wydad Casablanca beaten on Sunday but three goals in the final twenty minutes allowed the visitors to secure a stunning 4-3 comeback victory in Morocco’s top flight Botola Pro.

Salah Moussadeq assisted the equalizer in the fourth minute of second half stoppage time before scoring the match winner two minutes later for WAC, who remain on track to claim first place. Walid Sabbar scored the second goal for the visitors in the 78th minute, who shocked the home support by scoring two more goals despite Walid Nassi’s expulsion in the 83rd.

Former Morocco U-20 national team winger Mohammed Essahel and Nacer Moustaghfir got the hosts off to a dream start and a 2-0 lead inside sixteen minutes. Even after Wissam Ben Yedder offered a response for WAC before halftime, Moustaghfir set up current Morocco U-20 international Fouad Zahouani to restore the two-goal lead.

But an inspired comeback from Mohamed Amine Benhachem’s charges keep the campaign of redemption intact for Wydad, who have spent big and increased their urgency on the pitch to return to the top of Moroccan football. They will face fellow Moroccan club OC Safi in their CAF Confederation Cup quarterfinal first leg clash next Sunday.

Reigning champions RS Berkane were also in action on Sunday. Mounir Chouiar saved the hosts from dropping points with his 86th minute winner in a 2-1 victory over Difaâ Hassani El Jadidi (DHJ).

Youness El Kaabi’s first Botola Pro goal early in the second half appeared to be enough for RSB. However, Romauld Da Costa’s late equalizer put the hosts in serious danger of dropping points before Chouiar saved the Orange Boys with a quick response.

Wydad trail rivals Raja by one point for top spot but have played three less matches. RSB are recovering from a slow start, and after back-to-back league victories they are six points back of Raja with three matches to make up.

They will now focus on their upcoming CAF Champions League quarterfinal against Sudan’s Al Hilal with the first leg on March 14.
