Botswana unfazed by AFCON challenges

Botswana’s defender Thatayaone Ditlhokwe says the Zebras are not fazed by the challenge of competing at the forthcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The Zebras head to the premier continental football showdown as among the underdogs of the 24-member competition.

However, the former Kaizer Chiefs centre-back ruled out any pressure ahead of encounters against Angola, Zimbabwe, South Africa and record champions Egypt in Group D.

Ditlhokwe told the Botswana Football Association media that the Zebras have come a long way to be shaken at the prospect of meeting giants in Morocco.

“So far everything is going well we are preparing well and we are focusing on our preparations,” he said.

“We are ready for the task that is in front of us. It is not a one man’s show. We have captains all around me which makes the job easier.”

The former SuperSport United player reflected on how surviving stumbling blocks in the qualifying race strengthen their resolve going to the finals.

“We sat down and committed ourselves that come December 25 we should be at AFCON.

“Looking at the group nobody gave us a chance so it is not a big responsibility it ijust a question of finishing what we started. I am hoping and believe that when we leave we will be ready for AFCON,” he said.

The Zebras skipper hinted that they will leave Tunisia for Morocco four days before kickoff on December 21.
