Botswana’s rookies end Mngqithi speculation, hire coach

Botswana’s top-flight league side Black Lions FC have ended speculation linking them with the possible hiring of South African coach Manqoba Mngqithi.

The FNB Premiership side has appointed Serbian Srdjan Zivojinov as the new head coach.

The coming in of the new coach, who resigned from another Botswana club Township Rollers recently, puts to bed reports linking Black Lions FC with the Lamontville Golden Arrows mentor.

Da Gama lost his job with the Botswana club

Zivojinov has filled the void created by the sacking of former Orlando Pirates coach Owen Da Gama.

Da Gama lost his job with the Botswana club following a run of poor results, months after leaving Magesi FC in the PSL.

Things didn’t work out well for the veteran coach who left the club in 10th spot with 13 points from 14 matches.

Now, over the past few weeks, Black Lions FC’s officials were pictured with the former Sundowns handler Mngqithi, sparking speculation.

Such rumours heightened after the ex-Sundowns man appeared on social media platforms with club officials for the Botswana side.

“Working session with coach Manqoba Mngqithi this afternoon,” Black Lions FC posted on their official Facebook page a caption with Mngqithi in the photo.

However, it appears there was nothing much except the usual interaction football people always have.
