Botswana’s Township Rollers FC (TRFC) have appointed Srdan Zivojnov as the new coach of the 16-time FNB Premiership champions on a three-year contract.

Popularly known as Zivo, the Serbian coach has replaced Belgian Abdelaziz Karkache who was hired last December to replace Mogotsi Mpote, a local trainer.

In a statement, TRFC lauded the Serb as having “vast experience having coached in three world regions (Europe, Africa and Asia), in various countries that include Uganda, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Zambia, Mozambique, Vietnam and Serbia.

The coming in of the well-travelled 53-year-old means that the FNB Premiership side has now changed coaches thrice inside eight months.

Zivo prides himself for having led UD Songo to the Mozambique league championship in 2022 and St George of Ethiopia to the Zap Cup and Ethiopian Cup in 2022 and 2019.

He also had a successful spell with Young Africans of Tanzania between 2008 and 2009 when he claimed back-to-back domestic league championships, according to Rollers’ statement.

“Zivojnov has vast experience as head coach of clubs in international competitions such as the African Confederations Cup and CAF Champions League,” the statement reads.

The experienced coach also managed FC Buildcon FC in Zambia in 2019 they finished as the league’s runners up. His other stints include with SC Villa in Uganda in 2011 and Vietnam’s Ho Chi Minh City FC.

Zivo’s challenge would be to ensure Rollers win the domestic league title in the coming season after having settled for a distant sixth-place finish last season, 12 points behind champions Gaborone United.
