Boulbina converts penalty for Al Duhail after return from Algeria duty

Adil Boulbina marked a successful return from Algeria national team duty on Friday by scoring from the penalty spot in Al Duhail’s 2-0 Qatar Stars League victory at Al Wakra.

The striker now has three goals and four assists this season for his club, who are gaining some momentum after a difficult start to the 2025-26 season. The club now sit in 6th place, unbeaten in three league matches but still eleven points back of leaders Al Gharafa.

Boulbina won and then converted a penalty kick in the 64th minute for the match-winning goal. The former Paradou AC star displayed his dribbling ability to draw a foul in the Al Wakra penalty area before firing his spot kick just beyond the reach of goalkeeper Saoud Al Khater.

Boulbina made the most of his time in Morocco during his time with the Algeria national team at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. Used exclusively as a substitute during his three appearances, the rising talent scored a spectacular goal in extra time to lift Les Verts to a 1-0 victory over DR Congo in the Round of 16 before making an appearance in the quarterfinal defeat to Nigeria.

Former Italy national team and Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Marco Verratti confirmed victory for the visitors late on. Former Senegal national team fullback Youssouf Sabaly provided an excellent cross from the right wing that left Verratti with a simple finish from close range at the far post. Sabaly, who joined as a free agent following his time with La Liga club Real Betis, now has two assists in ten matches across all competitions for Al Duhail.

Later on Friday, leaders Al Gharafa won 2-1 at Al Arabi courtesy of two goals from former Real Madrid striker Joselu. Yacine Brahimi, who participated with Algeria at the 2025 FIFA Arab Cup alongside Boulbina, set up the first goal for Al Gharafa as he continues to enjoy yet another excellent season in Qatar’s top flight. His precise cross found the tall Spanish striker for a diving header at the far post.

The 35-year-old attacking midfielder now has six goals and twelve assists in seventeen matches this campaign.
