Algeria national team forward Adil Boulbina opened the scoring from the penalty spot and was given Man of the Match honors on Thursday as Al Duhail advanced to the quarterfinals of Qatar’s Emir Cup with a 2-0 result over second tier club Al Waab.

The striker has now scored in four of his last six matches with the club, with Thursday’s goal coming after Boulbina also converted from the spot in a 1-1 AFC Champions League Elite match against Emirati club Al Sharjah.
Close to the half hour mark, a deflected cross from the left wing led to Mubarak Hamza being fouled in the Al Waab penalty area by French defender Abdoulaye Bakayoko. Boulbina proceeded to send goalkeeper Mohammed Muntasser diving in the wrong direction with a calm spot kick.
The Algerian was substituted off in the 78th minute, which allowed Duhail’s other big-name striker to score. Polish national team forward Krzysztof Piątek struck late on from a Benjamin Bourigeaud assist to send the Qatar Stars League club through where they will face the winner of Friday’s all-QSL duel between Al Shahaniya and Al Arabi.
Boulbina now has 12 goals and 5 assists in 22 matches from all competitions. He is currently the leading scorer in the AFC Champions League with 7 goals from 7 matches.
Up next is a big clash to finish the league phase of the Champions League at Iraq’s Al Shorta, where a defeat could eliminate the Qatari club if results do not go their way elsewhere.
