Bouna Sarr training with Metz but no deal planned, says Le Mignan

FC Metz head coach Stéphane Le Mignan stated that his club is not considering signing Bouna Sarr. The former Senegal international is currently training with his former club to regain match fitness.

Le Mignan confirmed that Sarr, 33, is training with the French side but ruled out a possible return to his formative club. “For the moment, it’s not on the agenda. He’s training and enjoying himself after a difficult few months. We might have had some doubts about his fitness, but there are no issues there,” said Le Mignan.

Le Mignan’s side are struggling in the top flight after gaining promotion back to Ligue 1 last season. Sarr left German giants Bayern Munich in 2024 following four injury-plagued seasons. He managed to play only sixteen Bundesliga games due to persistent injuries.

Le Mignan added that Sarr has been training with the first team for the past two weeks. “The management has a good relationship with him because of his significant time here. He was without a club solution, so he has been training with us for fifteen days,” he explained.

Before his successful spell at Olympique de Marseille, the versatile flank player began his professional career with Metz. He won the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations with Senegal but has not received a national team call-up since 2022 due to ongoing knee problems. Sarr has remained without a club since June 2024.
