Brahim Diaz: ‘Morocco need to work hard to create more chances’

Morocco started their Africa Cup of Nations 2025 campaign in perfect fashion, defeating Comoros 2-0 in the tournament’s opening match.

Brahim Diaz scored the opening goal of AFCON 2025 and delivered an impressive performance, earning the Man of the Match award after leading the hosts to a comfortable victory.

Speaking during the post-match press conference, Diaz said:
“All matches will be difficult, especially when the opponent plays with a low block. We need to work hard to create more chances.”

Diaz stressed the importance of maintaining momentum, adding:
“We must keep playing this way to continue improving. Creating chances is essential if we want to score goals.”

The Real Madrid midfielder also highlighted the value of starting the tournament with a win.
“Beating Comoros helps us a lot, because when you play and win, it gives you a big boost, especially with the fans,” he explained.

Diaz praised the Moroccan supporters and called for unity throughout the competition.
“We really need the Moroccan fans. They were amazing against Comoros, and we must stay united if we want to win the title.”

Expressing his strong connection with the fans, Diaz added:
“I feel at home here. The people truly love me, and I feel the same. I want to give everything on the pitch to make them proud, because without them, I wouldn’t be here.”

He concluded by saying:
“I play football for the fans, and I want to give everything for our people.”

Morocco will face Mali in the second round on Friday, while Zambia will take on Comoros on the same day as Group A action continues at AFCON 2025.
