Brandon Thomas-Asante maintains hot form as Coventry beat Watford

Ghana forward Brandon Thomas-Asante registered one of the goals as Coventry City romped to a big 3-1 home win over Watford in the English Championship on Saturday.

Coventry mounted pressure in the early minutes of the first half and that saw Tatsuhiro Sakamoto make a quick run down the right side of the field.

The Japanese midfielder cut into the penalty area of Watford before lobbing the ball onto the head of Thomas-Asante to nod home the opener in the third minute at the Coventry Building Society Arena. The Black Stars attacker now has an amazing seven goals in his last six matches for Coventry as well as an assist.

Coventry kept the search for another goal intact when Jamie Allen smashed in the second goal inside the penalty box after a poorly cleared corner kick fell his way in the seventh minute.

Sakamoto, who provided the assist for the first goal, pounced on a defensive error in the dying minutes of the first half before rounding off an array of Watford backline to add the third goal heading into the half time break.

Watford were dealt a blow when James Abankwa received a direct red card for hacking down an opponent in his area in the 44th minute.

The visitors, however, drew a consolation goal when Imran Louza slotted in from the penalty spot in the 69th minute. Coventry now sit top of the league table with 28 points from 12 matches with Watford languishing in 14th on 15 points.

Brandon Thomas-Asante has now netted 9 goals in 11 matches and has three assists to his credit.
