Betway Premiership side AmaZulu FC are making the most of the extended break from action to reinforce their squad.
Usuthu are reportedly closing in on the signing of Brazilian defender Gustavo Vieira Lopes. The 25-year-old is on the books of Mozambican outfit Ferroviário da Beira.
Reports from the Mozambican league side and the player himself suggest a contract agreement with AmaZulu FC is just a matter of when rather than if.
He said this after Ferroviário da Beira’s 1-0 victory over Textáfrica in the 24th round of the 2025 Moçambola (Mozambique football league).
“I’m going to pursue a new challenge, it’s an important step in my career. I want to thank the people of Beira for everything. This city will always be a home for me; I gained a family here,” he is quoted saying.
Just how good is Lopes?
Lopes is a highly-rated defender who can also play as a defensive midfielder. He has spent two seasons in Mozambique with the Daúto Faquirá-led club and made 45 appearances.
In a statement, Ferroviário da Beira wished Lopez well as he crosses the border for a dance in the Betway Premiership.
“Thank you, Gustavo! Your passage through Chiveve was synonymous with work, grit and overcoming. Thank you, Gustavo, for defending this club with so much passion. Bring new flights, new achievements, and new stories!” the statement reads.
AmaZulu went into the Africa Cup of Nations-induced break while lying in fifth place in the standings.4
