Breaking: Kenya striker Michael Olunga leaves Al-Duhail

Qatar Stars League outfit Al-Duhail have confirmed the exit of Harambee Stars striker Michael Olunga and wished him well on his next move.



A statement from the club confirmed Olunga's departure:


"The management of Al-Duhail Sports Club extends its gratitude and appreciation to Kenyan striker Michael Olunga the club's historical goal scorer for what he has given outstanding contribution and exceptional performance during his career with the first team.
Olunga has been an example of professionalism and discipline on and off the pitch, he has contributed significantly to the club's many achievements and championships, and has also left a clear mark on the club's history through his decisive goals and contributions.
The Al-Duhail Club family wishes Michael Olunga all the best in his next stop and assures the club’s doors will remain open to the historic flood scorer. Thank you Olunga.. You will always be an integral part of the Duhail family."


Towering striker Olunga joined Duhail in 2021 on a three-season contract, for a reported transfer fee of €6 million. He made his debut for the club on January 12, in a 3-1 away loss against Al Sadd. The now 31-year-old previously starred with Japanese club Kashiwa Reysol before making his big-money move to Qatar.


On 25 January 2021, Olunga scored a hat-trick in Duhail's 6-0 win against Al Ahli in the Emir of Qatar Cup Olunga finished as the top scorer of the 2021 AFC Champions League, but Al-Duhail crashed out of the competition after a 1-1 draw with Al Ahli SC of Saudi Arabia in late April that year.
