In a breaking development, the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) will postpone all FKF Premier League matches originally set to take place on January 4 and 5 as it undergoes a "transition period".

In a statement viewed by Pan-Africa Football, the FKF made this announcement due to the recently completed elections for leadership positions within the federation. The FKF requested patience from stakeholders, stating that the "FKF finds itself in a transition period that has largely affected the running of our leagues".

The statement continues: "Following a new dispensation, the Federation is at the point of restructuring its operations across key areas. Currently, vital standing committees such as leagues and competitions, referee, player status, among others... which are a direct tie-in to the running of the top (FKF Premier League), and other leagues, are non-existent."

The upcoming weekend matches have been postponed to allow for the FKF to hold a National Executive meeting on January 7 where committees will be formed to organise the key components mentioned above. The FKF further stated that new dates will be announced for the postponed matches in due course.

Of note is that the FKF Premier League has been on a break since the latest fixture on December 22, a 1-0 victory for Gor Mahia over Kariobangi Sharks.

Many players from the league are currently on duty with the Kenya national team for the upcoming Mapinduzi Cup, an invitational tournament scheduled for January 3-13 in Zanzibar. Harambee Stars interim coach Francis Kimanzi and his team will use the tournament to serve as a preparation exercise before the finals of the African Nations Championship (CHAN) co-hosted by Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania beginning on February 1.
