Brian Baloyi’s verdict: Why I’d pick Mosimane over Benni for Chiefs job

As the dark clouds gather over Naturena, Kaizer Chiefs legend Brian Baloyi has weighed in on the coaching discourse, identifying Pitso Mosimane as the only man capable of navigating the club out of its current storm.

The Soweto giants are currently enduring a nightmare run under the tandem of Cedric Kaze and Khalil Ben Youssef. Four consecutive defeats across all competitions have not only seen Amakhosi slip down the Betway Premiership standings but also exit the CAF Confederation Cup, leaving the fan base restless.

Speaking on Metro FM most recently, the man affectionately known as “Spiderman” – Brian Baloyi didn’t mince his words regarding the current technical setup. Baloyi believes the magnitude of the Chiefs job requires a level of experience that the current duo—and even some high-profile alternatives—might lack.

“There’s a lot of them; yes, Benni [McCarthy] would be a right fit, definitely Pitso would also be, but I’d take Pitso over Benni,” Brian Baloyi asserted.

While Benni McCarthy remains a popular choice among the Khosi faithful, Baloyi argues that the former Manchester United first-team coach still needs to sharpen his teeth before taking on a project of this scale.

“Benni, as much as he’s a good coach, I think he’s still inexperienced to get to that level. You need a mentor. You need someone who knows how to rebuild—to build everything from scratch.”

The Case for Local Excellence At Chiefs By Brian Baloyi

Chiefs have often looked toward Europe for coaching solutions in recent years, but Baloyi insists the answer lies within South African borders. He pointed to a golden generation of local tacticians who understand the nuances of the domestic game.

“There’s more—Fadlu Davids, there’s Rulani [Mokwena], and there’s Manqoba [Mngqithi]. There are a lot of coaches that can do a good job at Chiefs that are South African before we even go out looking for European coaches.”

With Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates currently operating on a different level at the summit of the table, Baloyi’s endorsement of Mosimane stems from “Jingles'” proven track record of breaking monopolies and building sustainable dynasties.
