Brighton & Hove Albion FC manager Fabian Hurzeler has urged Gambian international Yankuba Minteh to stay humble and grounded after his recent sparkling displays for the Premier League side.
The Seagulls boss was reacting to the nomination of the 20-year-old for the club’s Player of the Month in February award following his two goals and an assist in the Premier League. The coach urged Minteh not to think too much about his nomination but rather to play for the team if he is to achieve more.
“First of all, the nomination is deserved,” Hurzeler told Brighton media. “But it is also important to understand that these small achievements only come by team achievement, by team success. Everyone must understand that you will shine as an individual when the whole group and the whole club have success.”
The German said more was yet to come from the youngster who missed five games between last October and November through an injury but called for humility.
“I'm happy with his development, especially how he reacted after his injury. He worked hard to come back like this. He improved, especially out of possession, and now he's getting more and more aware of the danger in the opponent's box,” he added.
“So, we are quite happy, but we still see a lot of improvement. It's very important for him to stay humble, to stay grounded, and to keep working hard. Because there's still a lot of potential and still a lot of things where he can improve and help the team even more.”
The winger has contributed five goals and three assists in 22 league appearances this season. Minteh will be in action on Saturday when Brighton face Fulham.
